Partner Maya Shulman was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1970. From 1987-89, Ms. Shulman studied medicine at the University of Latvia, School of Medicine. Ms. Shulman emigrated to America to New York in 1990. In 1995, she graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York with a B.A. in psychology.
In 1995, Ms. Shulman moved to Los Angeles. She attended the University of West Los Angeles School of Law, earning her J.D. in 1999. During law school, she was selected for a special judicial externship with the Los Angeles Superior Court as a research assistant for the Honorable Mary Ann Murphy, Judge of the Superior Court.
In 2000, Ms. Shulman was admitted to the California Bar and the U.S. District Court (Central District) in 2000. In 2004, she was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Shulman is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Los Angeles County and San Fernando Valley Bar Associations.
As a result of Ms. Shulman's high intellectual, administrative and managerial skills, she quickly rose from the firm's first position as an associate attorney to partner and, in 2005, to her current position as the firm's managing partner.
Ms. Shulman was a Family Law Instructor with the Los Angeles Valley College Paralegal Program.
Concerned with humanitarian efforts, Ms. Shulman represented numerous low-income litigants though the non-profit Vincent Family Law Center in Los Angeles. She also lectured and trained the staff of Haven House, Inc., an organization assisting battered women and their children with legal representation regarding child custody and domestic violence matters.
Ms. Shulman is fluent in Russian, with conversational skills in Italian and the Slavic languages of Eastern Europe.
Ms. Shulman’s practice is devoted exclusively to family law, which includes litigation, mediation and collaboration in all areas of dissolution, paternity, domestic and international move-away custody cases, adoption, post-divorce modification of custody and support.
